Phonemes, Phonics, Reading and Writing
ICS offers online classes for YWAM children about to begin learning to read and onwards into deeper comprehension and written communication which are based on the Science of Reading and 6 Traits of Writing.
Learning to Read Reading has to be taught. We don't read naturally - we have to learn how. Different parts of our brain work together to make it possible to read. Children might take longer or less time to become strong readers but our brains all work the same way. A 5-10 minute read, this downloadable booklet will explain all you need to know about how our brains work as we read - and why learning to read with phonemes and phonics is so important.

Book Clubs Beginner, developing and advanced readers gather together weekly to discuss a book they are reading together, all in the context of fellowship and fun learning! Literature Circle roles help the children connect personally with the stories as Biblical Themes connect the story to their relationship with God.
Writing Workshop Writing workshop is available for individual students or groups from Grades 3-12. 6 Traits of Writing is used to encourage creative expression of the child’s own thinking which clearly communicates the ‘picture in the student’s mind’ to the reader. Biblical Themes help the student connect their faith with their passion, connecting their writing with God and His Kingdom.
